SUTTON Bridge Golf Club has welcomed in the New Year in style by hosting their annual captain’s “drive-in”.
New captain, Barry Irwin, marked the start of the new season by teeing off in front of a crowd of club members on New Year’s Day.
A fund raising competition was also held, with spectators invited to bet on the spot where they thought the ball would land from the drive.
The new ladies captain, Beryl Stockton, was the eventual winner - placing her guess within 20 feet of the ball’s finishing point. A total of 45 was raised for the captain’s chosen charity DebRA.
The event was sadly overshadowed by the death of a former captain of the club, David Nelson, who died after losing his two year battle with cancer.
