Harleston I 7 Wisbech I 1

THIS result secured Harleston won the league and were promoted to the English Hockey League.

A severely weakened Wisbech matched the hosts in the early stages but an injury to sweeper Jon Shippey further hampered their cause.

The hosts were 3-0 up by the early stages of the second half.

Wisbech showed fight but when they lost Lee Peck for a yellow card, rampant Harleston took full advantage by scoring three times while he was off.

An unstoppable drag flick from Wisbech's Sam Blunt fired high into the net from a short corner.

Wisbech play twice this weekend. Saturday sees them host Bishops Stortford (2.30pm) and on Sunday the visitors are Bedford (1pm).

Horncastle II 2 Wisbech V 1

A STRONG Horncastle took victory as Wisbech ran out of steam in searing heat.

The hosts piled on unrelenting pressure and an attacker scored from what seemed an impossible angle.

Wisbech started the second half well with good runs from Daniel Howard and Will Greenwood came close to scoring on his debut.

The equaliser came from a strike into the circle from Chris Stanhope, which was tapped in by Hugo Atkins.

Terrific work by Jack Bass, George Carter and Ashley Williams kept Horncastle at bay.

But after several substitutions Horncastle had fresh players on the pitch and the worn out Wisbech players just couldn't keep up.

The winner came from a Horncastle passing the ball around the keeper.

Wisbech are home to Peterborough tomorrow (4pm).

Wisbech Town III 4 Newmarket I 3

WISBECH all but guaranteed promotion on Saturday.

Richard Claxton cancelled out a Newmarket strike, and Matt Goodwin made it 2-2 after the visitors took the lead for the second time.

In the second half two quick Claxton goals, one of which involving a fine team move and a decisive Goodwin pass, put them 4-2 up before Newmarket pulled one back.

Claxton was the man of the match and centre-back Ivan Burgess was also superb for Wisbech.
