THE last kick of the game gave Wembley-bound Lowestoft Town a 1-0 Ridgeons Premier Division over Wisbech Town on Tuesday night.

Fenmen manager Roy McManus was infuriated when hosts Lowestoft, who play Kirkham and Wesham in the FA Vase Final on May 11, were awarded a dubious throw in, deep in Wisbech's half, two minutes into stoppage time.

The ball was launched to the front post, flicked on and poked in from close range.

McManus said: "I was standing close to the action and it was clearly our throw in. And I don't know where all the stoppage time came from. It's very disappointing because we had worked very hard and were unfortunate not to win the match and it's heartbreaking to lose that way."

Wisbech were poor in the first half.

They regularly surrendered possession cheaply and relied on a solid defence to keep in scoreless at half-time.

The Fenmen came to life in the final 15 minutes and created five good chances to win.

The outstanding James McManus smashed a stunning left-footed drive into the underside of the crossbar, Billy Smith scraped the outside of the post after outpacing the hosts' defence and then shot narrowly over from distance, Scott Cubberley missed with a header after Stuart Ablett's cross and Grant Rider had an effort blocked by a defender.

An outstanding performance saw the Fenmen sweep aside an in-form Norwich United aside and claim a 3-0 victory at Fenland Park on Saturday.

Smith latched on to Horton's long kick and smashed Wisbech into the lead after 15 minutes.

Ablett doubled the advantage midway through the second half. The ball was swept out to the midfielder on the right wing, who ran in and struck a sweet finish into the bottom corner.

Midfielder James McManus came off the bench to complete the scoring in the final minute. He passed to Ablett, collected a return ball, and fired in off the left post.

Wisbech centre-back Paul Cousins had to have his head bandaged up before the match.

Manager Roy McManus said: "Paul had a freak accident in his garden just before he left for the ground and the shed door smashed him in the head and he turned up with blood pouring out.

"Paul just said, 'do what you have to do to get me on the pitch' and that's typical of him and the Fenmen fighting spirit shown by the squad this season."
