Dick Creasey might not like the cold - as evidenced by his recent choice of headwear - but it doesn’t seem to faze his Wisbech Town players.

The Fenmen proved they can turn in a top performance in less than desirable conditions when sealing their spot in the quarter-finals of the United Counties KO Cup last night.

They travelled to a soggy and chilly Raunds Town looking to improve on their disappointing 1-1 draw with Peterborough Northern Star last weekend, and duly delivered with a commanding 3-0 success.

Youngster Harry Limb bagged a brace and Adam Millson struck from the spot as the Fenmen secured their passage into the next round at a canter, and boss Dick Creasey says goalkeeper Sam Vince was a bystander as they eased to victory.

“I don’t want to be disrespectful to Raunds but it was a stroll, really,” he said.

“Our ‘keeper has had nothing to do all game. Sometimes you just have to go and get the job done and sometimes you can slip up on a cold and rainy Tuesday night but we went there and progressed into the next round.”

The Fenmen’s cup success was their third game in a run of eight fixtures they face during November, and Creasey admitted he is impressed that their fixture pile-up has failed to have an impact on their form.

“The fixtures have been relentless,” said Creasey.

“Credit to the players because they’ve had to come away from work and travel to away games like the one last night and they’re still coming away with good results.

“Sometimes the fixtures can take their toll but the lads are doing well.

“The same goes for the supporters who travel for miles on cold and wet evenings to support the team, so well done to them.”

Wisbech are now unbeaten in their last four fixtures in all competitions – and Creasey wants to make it five in this Saturday’s clash with strugglers Kirby Muxloe (3pm).

He said: “We’re on a little run now being four games unbeaten and we want to continue that for as long as we can.”
