A JUNIOR open fun day next week marks the beginning of a busy schedule of events and competitions at Wisbech Lawn Tennis Club.

The event, from 11am to 1pm on Saturday, April 28, is open to all youngsters aged from six to 12 years old and those wishing to take part can turn up on the day and use the club's rackets.

And from that point on during the summer, the club is providing plenty of opportunities for junior and adult players to get involved in the sport.

Coaching courses, run by experienced club coach Lisa Kennedy, provide a fun way for players of all levels to improve their game as Sue Beel, chairman of the club, explains: "Players from beginners' level to match players can enrol on the eight-week course.

"They not only provide a fun environment in which to pick up new skills but they are also a great way to meet new people."

She added: "We have aimed to provide as many opportunities for players of all ages to enjoy the game as possible, whether it is playing socially with friends or competing in league matches."

Tennis courses begin on May 14, with junior sessions running from 4pm to 7pm on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. A junior club night, free for members, will run from 4pm to 6pm on Fridays.

Adult coaching will be split into three levels of classes and the one-hour classes will take place on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings. The senior club night will be held from 7pm to 8pm on Mondays.

Sue Beel said: "The Monday sessions are particularly useful for beginners or for players whose skills are a little 'rusty'."

Social events will be organised throughout the year, and new for this summer is a coaching and coffee morning on Thursdays between 10am and 11.30am.

Junior and senior tournaments will be hosted and the club has a ladies', a men's and two mixed teams in the West Norfolk League and mixed and ladies' teams competing in the Peterborough and Hunts League.

For more information contact Sue Beel on 01945 584319 or Lisa Kennedy on 07788 857502. Discounts are offered on subscriptions paid before April 30.
