Wisbech Town boss Dick Creasey is urging his players not to dwell on experiencing defeat in a game which many described as an ‘early season title decider’.

The Fenmen fell to a 2-0 defeat at UCL Premier Division title hopefuls Deeping Rangers last night (Tuesday August 8), and while many pundits have praised Rangers for their slick passing and attacking display, Creasey says it is too early to label Michael Goode’s men as potential champions.

“We lacked quality all over the pitch and Deeping deserved to win the game,” Creasey admitted. “We’re disappointed with the result.

“I had people ringing me the morning after the game saying that Deeping are like the UCL Real Madrid, but I think it was a case of us playing badly, rather than them playing really well.

“They’re a good side and they’ll be there or there abouts at the end of the season but let’s not get too excited – that was their first match of the season.

“We’re only two games in so we can’t be too disappointed with the defeat. The good thing about this stage of the season is that games come thick and fast and we don’t have to wait a long time to put the defeat right and we’ve got an opportunity to do that on Saturday at Desborough.”

Wisbech go to Desborough Town on Saturday for the last of three consecutive away trips which began last Saturday with a 4-1 FA Cup extra preliminary round success over new Step Five club, Biggleswade FC.

Josh Ford opened the scoring from the spot before Michael Frew, Ed Buzas and Danny Emmington’s first goal since his move from Wisbech St Mary sealed Wisbech’s place in the next round.

“We wanted the win on Saturday and we got it,” Creasey said.

“No disrespect to Biggleswade but they’re not as good as Deeping and they’re not as good as Desborough.

“Desborough is a hard place to go and we know it will be a tough, tough game.”

Ar Tarn claimed a win in their first league encounter of the season last night; a 1-0 victory at Daventry Town.
