Form is massively important in football – but Wisbech Town boss Dick Creasey insists it will not be a factor going into his side’s League Cup final with rivals Yaxley on Bank Holiday Monday.

Both sides are in fine fettle going into Monday’s showdown, with Wisbech taking maximum points from their last six UCL Premier Division games and Yaxley on a run of 11 games without defeat that has fired them to third in the league standings.

But Creasey, whose men bring the curtain down on the league season tomorrow with a trip to struggling Harrowby United tomorrow (3pm), says Wisbech’s current purple patch will count for nothing in Monday’s showdown.

“We go into the game and the league form goes out the window,” he told the club’s official YouTube channel.

“Our league form has been good but Yaxley’s hasn’t been bad either.

“Hopefully it’s a good game but first we need to get over the hurdle of Harrowby.

“Everyone is thinking ‘how many goals is it going to be?’ but we just need to go on and win the game.”

Wisbech brought up their sixth straight win last Saturday with a hard-fought 3-1 success at Northampton Sileby Rangers.

The Fenmen were forced to come from behind to seal the points, with goals coming from Alex Beck, Billy Smith and an own-goal in the second period.

“I wasn’t too happy at half time. It was probably the worst 45 minutes I’ve seen for us all season,” Creasey admitted

“I think two things changed the game – them scoring and us changing the formation. We went 3-5-2 which seemed to help us and we’ve got the points in the end.

“Good sides sometimes don’t play well but win. We weren’t at the races all over the park.

“We set ourselves a little target with eight games to go and we need one win to hit that target.”

Wisbech will finish their campaign in fifth if they can better Eynesbury Rovers’ result tomorrow. The Rovers entertain Desborough Town.
