Wisbech St Mary boss Arran Duke says his side’s recent results are not matching their performances.

The Saints slipped to back-to-back defeats this week in two different competitions but Duke says he has no problem with their of his side’s displays in their losses to Norwich CBS and Ely City.

“I’m obviously disappointed to have slipped to two defeats recently but the performances haven’t matched the results,” he said.

“We have been playing some really good stuff but not finishing teams off when we are on top and ultimately that has cost us, especially at the game against Ely.”

Dale Parnell scored St Mary’s only goal in their Thurlow Nunn First Division encounter with Norwich on Saturday, before giving them the lead again when they met with higher-level Ely in the League Cup last night.

But in a game blighted by heavy fog, the Robins managed to hit back and progress into the next round courtesy of two second-half goals – and a missed Saints penalty.

“We went one-nil up but missed a massive chance to make it two through the penalty,” Duke added.

“Ely found the winner in the 95th minute but there are lots of positives to take from the game.”

The Saints are without a match this weekend so have plenty of time to prepare for their chance to get revenge over Norwich CBS when they meet in the FA Vase on November 11.

“Having a break gives us a chance to try and get players back fit again and to get a few training sessions in before the game,” Duke said.

“Despite two straight defeats it’s clear the lads are confident again.”

Duke has also rejected a recent approach from March Town for the in-form Dale Parnell.

The Hares have turned to Parnell after losing star striker Toby Allen to King’s Lynn Town Reserves last month, but it’s understood that Duke is not resigned to losing one of his side’s most important players.
