Wisbech St Mary’s six-month wait for a Thurlow Nunn League First Division victory is over.

Arran Duke’s men roared to a 4-1 success at Needham Market Reserves last Saturday thanks to a hat-trick from Nick Davey – his second three-goal haul in the space of 10 days - and a Dale Parnell strike.

It left the Saints chief with a mixture of relief and delight. His side’s four previous league victories this season all arrived back in August.

“It is great to finally get that win on the board,” said Duke. “It has certainly been a long time coming.

“I am delighted that we have got the three points because we have all been working so hard.

“It was a really pleasing result accompanied by a strong performance as well. We took our chances when they came at key moments and fully deserved to beat Needham.

“Nick has been in fine form since returning from injury. Having him back has given us a real lift.

“That’s now eight goals in five games from him with two hat-tricks in that time.”

Saints remain third-bottom of the First Division standings ahead of a derby trip to King’s Lynn Town Reserves on Friday night, 7.45pm.

And Duke reckons his men are relishing the prospect of playing under the floodlights at The Walks.

He added: “It is a great place to go and play football, and we are all looking forward to it after last Saturday’s result.

“We are looking for another big performance from the lads. We know Lynn are having a good season, but we will go there with the aim of getting something from the game.”

Duke’s side are also in action on Wednesday night when they welcome Framlingham Town to Beechings Close (7.45pm).

Their First Division KO Cup quarter-final at Debenham LC has been rearranged for March 6 after being postponed last night (Tuesday).
