Wisbech Town have signed goalkeeper Paul Bastock in time for tomorrow’s FA Vase clash with Bourne Town.

The 47-year-old arrives in Fenland on a dual-registration from parent club, Corby Town.

Bastock has played 1,239 games during his career and is only 11 appearances away for surpassing Peter Shilton’s world record of 1,249 appearances.

He will take his place between the sticks tomorrow as the Fenmen’s first-choice goalkeeper, Sam Vince, is unavailable.

Bastock began his career at Cambridge United before having spells at a host of clubs including Boston United – where he made over 600 appearances – Rushden & Diamonds, St Albans City and St Neots Town. He also runs his own goalkeeping coaching business.
