Wisbech Town boss Dick Creasey says his squad is finally beginning to click after the Fenmen pulled off one of the surprises of the season so far last night.

Creasey’s men triumphed 2-0 at higher-level Spalding United last night (22) to book their place in the first qualifying round of the FA Cup, and the Wisbech boss believes his side - who found the net through Josh Ford and Billy Smith - were worthy winners.

“Over the two games we worked hard and I don’t think there’s anybody out there who can say we didn’t deserve to get through,” he said.

“I think we’re very much a work in progress at the minute. We have started to get some sort of shape and we’ve started to play the way we want to play.

“We knew the players we brought in were big characters and it always takes a little bit of time for them to settle in but we’re beginning to see that now.

“Jamma (Jamie Stevens), if fully fit, is too good for this league and Fordy (Josh Ford) has been playing out of position but has been working his socks off.

“Jordan (Yong) is another player too good to be playing at this level but we’re enjoying having him here until he goes back to Malaysia and Danny Emmington is getting fitter and is getting to hang with what’s needed of him, so it’s all starting to come together.”

Wisbech now head into a period of three massive games in three separate competitions – starting with the visit of lower-level Potton United in the League Cup on Saturday afternoon (3pm).

“We’re coming into a period now where we have some really big games,” Creasey added.

“We got called giant killers last night but Potton beat a Step Four side in their FA Cup game last Friday so they’re capable of a giant killing themselves.

“We then go to Eynesbury Rovers (Tuesday 28, 7.45pm) who a lot of people have tipped to win the league and then we’re back in the FA Cup the following Saturday at Kempston Rovers, so it’s a massive seven days and three really important games for us.

“We need everybody to be up for the games and to have match fitness so we’ll have to make some changes and rotate, no shadow of a doubt.”
