Manager Gary Setchell has issued a rallying call to Wisbech Town supporters - and all Fenland football fans - to get behind his side’s bid for FA Vase glory.

Wisbech host Bromsgrove Sporting in the fourth round of the national competition this Saturday, 3pm, and Setchell is bracing himself for a stern test against opponents who reached the semi-finals last season.

It’s a mouth-watering clash of two title-chasing sides with the Fenmen sitting second in the United Counties League Premier Division and Sporting occupying the same position in the Midland League Premier Division crown.

Setchell also expects the visitors to be backed by an army of up to 400 travelling fans - hence why he is anxious for the local public to be his side’s 12th man.

“It’s a huge game for the club and we really need people to get behind us,” said Setchell. “We know that Bromsgrove could be bringing anywhere up to three our four hundred supporters with them.

“We want to make sure we don’t lose the advantage of playing at home, so please come out and get behind the lads.

“We are playing some great stuff and we’re on a great run. Bromsgrove are also going well so I think it will be a real barnstormer.

“People are in for a cracking game of football and I can’t stress enough how important the support is for the boys.

“Our best chance of beating them is at home, so we really want to make tomorrow count but whatever happens, whether it’s in 90 minutes or 120 minutes this weekend, or a replay at their place, we want to make sure our name is in the hat for the next round.

“While we are under no illusions about how tough Bromsgrove will be to beat, we go into the game full of confidence and it would be great to have the town come out and support us.”

Wisbech have been out of action since dishing out a 4-0 drubbing to local rivals Holbeach United in a crunch United Counties League Premier Division clash on Boxing Day.

Their final fixture of 2017 - a home clash against Cogenhoe last Saturday - was postponed due to a waterlogged Fenland Stadium pitch.

Wisbech have already pocketed close to £3,000 in prize money for negotiating three rounds of the FA Vase. The winners tomorrow will earn £1,825 with the beten side collecting £625.
