SEVERAL anglers struggled to catch 1lb in the third round of the King of the Fens on the Wide Welland, above Spalding, on Sunday.
Mark Pollard, fishing for league leaders Stanjays, won from the end peg 12-3 of skimmers to 8oz. On the day, Bourne won the team event.
At Main Drain at Tydd Gote John Spalton took top spot a week last Tuesday with 10-15 of roach, taken on hemp.
On Thursday Bob Bates won with 8-13 of roach and skimmers.
Last Sunday Rob Wright landed two bream for 9-7 to win.
Manea Angling Club fished on the River Delph last Sunday and Barry Leonard took plenty of small fish to win with 7-3.
The Twenty Foot at Chain Bridge and Shepperson Bridge is fishing well for tench at the moment and the Old Nene still has plenty of colour. The best areas seem to be Reedfen, the Bypass Section and Floods Ferry.
The Sixteen Foot Drain at Cottens Corner is still producing some nice bream catches as is the Middle Level at the Crooked Chimney.
On the lakes, Decoy held a three-day festival a week last Monday, with all anglers fishing a different lake each day.
The overall winner, with five points, was Steve Owen.
Last Saturday, on the Willows Lake, John Whincup won in the open match with 150lb. Then on the Beastie Lake last Sunday, Simon Godfrey took top spot with 103lb.
At Highflyer lake last Saturday Dave Pearce jnr left the rest of the field standing when he took 405lb of carp to 12 on corn. March angler Fred Nixon was second with 115lb. The following day, Nixon was second again with 178lb, behind Richard Birch's 238lb.
Last Saturday Whitemoor Angling Club fished a match in their own lake and brothers Steve and Mick Smalley came out in front. Steve won with 91-12 and Mick was second with 29lb.
Over at Buttonhole Lake a week last Tuesday Damien Evans won with 64lb.
Mill View Angling Club travelled to Decoy last Sunday to fish the Willows Lake, which fished well. Pete Rayner won with 63lb.
At Head Fen lake manager Marcus Bailey won on Shake Lake with 95lb.
Mill View Senior Citizens were in action were in action a week last Wednesday at Magpie Lake at Pidley and Dave Farugia won with 60lb.
This week's fixtures are the Tydd Gote Open Junior Match at the Main Drain tomorrow. Telephone Dave on 01945 463913 for a ticket; Manea Angling Club at the Old Nene Bypass Section and Mill View will be at Jay Lake at Pidley on Sunday with an 8.30am draw time; Townsend Angling Club at Eldernell Lakes with an 8am draw; Tydd Gote in a club draw match at Road Bridge at noon with fishing from 1-6pm. Then on Tuesday and Thursday Tydd run an evening match on the Main Drain and draw time is 5.30pm.
Finally, Pat North is running an open match on the pool at Fields End on Sunday. The match is in memory of Greig Kent. There are a few tickets left and you need to contact Pat on 01354 653247 if you wish to fish.
