MARCH Town United go into Saturday's FA Cup clash at Northampton Spencer full of confidence after claiming their first Ridgeons First Division points of the season.

The Hares beat Godmanchester Rovers 2-0 at the GER Ground on Tuesday night after kicking off the season four days earlier with a 1-0 home defeat to Diss.

March chairman Phil White said: "We didn't turn up on Saturday but were very good on Tuesday night. Goalkeeper Chris Anker and the back four played particularly well."

The Hares made a dream start to Tuesday's match when Lee White scored a header after passing down the left wing to Ash Brand before converting the pacey striker's cross and it remained 1-0 at half-time.

The March defence stood up to periods of second-half pressure before Brand secured the points by scoring a breakaway goal in the last 10 minutes.

The below-par March were undone by an 81st-minute goal on Saturday following a goalkeeping error.

White said: "I'm really confident we're going to have a successful season and have lots of confidence in our new manager Jamie Weston.

"We're sending a coach on Saturday for any supporters that want to come and watch the FA Cup game. It's an important competition for us as it can earn the club a bit of money."

March will be without Chris Anker and defenders Michael Anker and Craig Norman for Saturday's match.

n The coach leaves the GER Ground at 11.45am on Saturday and will cost 5 a seat. To reserve a place contact Phil White on 07791 9256670. Supporters will be able to get a seat on the day if any are available.
