FORMER March and Wisbech boss Roy McManus and current Hares assistant manager Jamie Weston are the front runners to take over the reigns at the GER club.

Brett Whaley resigned last week following two years as manager.

The March board have spoken to Weston, 29, and Chris Dearo, 31, who would like work with McManus as an assistant player-manager and one other candidate.

The board have remained tight-lipped on the identity of this person and will make a decision soon after chairman Phil White returns from holiday on June 9.

Weston joined March two years ago.

He ran the reserve team in his first season when they gained promotion to the Cambs Senior B Division and last term he was the first team's assistant manager.

McManus, 56, made his first appearance in senior football with March, aged 15, and he managed the Hares on the late 1990s.

He has also had three spells as Wisbech manager, most recently seeing the Fenmen to Ridgeons Premier Division safety the season before last.

Centre-back Dearo has played for Wisbech, King's Lynn and Yaxley and he played a player-assistant manager role with Leverington last season after a period out with injury.

He said: "Roy is second to none in terms of managerial experience in this area and I think we could create something really special at March.

"By all accounts Jamie Weston is a very likeable guy and he is getting lots of plaudits for the work he is doing. I wish him good luck if he gets the job."

McManus who has recently turned down offers from Ely, Downham Market and Fakenham said: "I've not applied for the job and I don't want to step on anyone's toes, but I am interested."

Whaley quit March because he is concerned that several players would leave the club due to the financial difficulties the Hares are facing.

He said work and family commitments would prevent him the time needed to rebuild the squad.

But White said: "I would like to reassure all March fans that the club is in the black and will remain that way.
