SWIMMER Liam Knight won eight gold medals, three silvers and secured national qualification with a superb series of performances at the weekend.

The Wisbech Grammar School student was competing in the Licensed Peterborough Open Meet.

Most notable successes were gold in the 400m Individual Medley and 200m Backstroke events where he gained national qualifying standard times.

He will compete in the National Swimming Championships at Ponds Forge, Sheffield at the end of July.

Six other gold medals followed in the 200m Individual Medley, 200m Butterfly, 200m Breaststroke, 400m Freestyle, 100m Butterfly and 100m Breaststroke with most of these events being won in times only a fraction of a second outside the National Qualifying Standard.

Knight silvers in the 100m Backstroke, 200m Freestyle and 100m Freestyle events.

The weekend culminated in Liam being awarded the prestigious award of Overall Top Boy for the whole Open Meet.
