CRICKET ROUND-UP

IT'S party time at Leverington after the club secured promotion to play in West Norfolk's top division for the first time since 1986.

Leverington beat Terrington on Saturday and with Sheringham losing to Bircham this gave Leverington the cushion that they needed.

Damien Allen (61) and Simon Gilbert (35) gave Leverington the best opening partnership of the season as they put on 112 for the first wicket.

The rest of the middle order pushed the score along at a good rate with Adam Fairbrother (22), Paul Rockliffe (16), Mark Godfrey (15) and debut-making James Paul (12 not out) all plugging away and Leverington finished on 219-9.

Leverington bowled a very disciplined line and soon had Terrington in trouble with Wayne Stimpson, Damien Allen and Aaron Cobb all picking up three wickets with some good catches and some very good fielding especially from skipper Mark Godfrey who hit the stumps to perform a run-out.

Leverington play Munford at home tomorrow.

Mumford have won two out of their last three games and a win would give them a great chance of staying up.

n Gary Freear declared five overs early after Wisbech I set 277-6, thanks mainly to Gary's brother Simon's maiden Tucker Gardner League century, but Nassington held on for a draw that saw them win the championship.

Simon Freear opened with 113 and his captain brother gary came in at No. 3 to add 86.

James Williams led the Wisbech bowling attack, with a superb 5-55 but Nassington then shut up shop to secure the draw and the title.

Wisbech will take pride from the fact that they had been in control against the champions and sets them up for tomorrow's final match of the season at home to March.

n March I bowler Chris Peckett took 4-21 but his side lost their Tucker Gardner Division One match against Ramsey by a single wicket.

Hosts March batted first and were all out for 112 with Tommy Howegego top-scoring on 24.

Ramsey replied with 113-9.

Steve Seymour took 3-39 and Chris Ringham was March's other wicket-taker with 2-28.

n Opener Jake Wenman hit 55 runs to help March II to a 59-run CCA Senior Division Two victory over Royston.

He was well supported by Andrew Stone (20) and Andy Bryan (34), plus 59 extras as March reached 200-5.

Royston replied with 141-6.

Richard Green took 2-23 and David Haselgrave, Stuart Arnold and Wenman all chipped in with a wicket each.

n On a very wet track Daniel Mason (33) and Ken Smart (31) were the only Wisbech III batsmen able to grind out any meaningful batting scores as John Mallett's side slipped to a five-wicket West Norrfolk Division Three defeat at Holt.

Captain Mallett made the poor decision to bat first and Wisbech limped to 135 all out.

The pitch dried and Holt replied with 136-5 with Brad Apted (2-38) the pick of the Wisbech bowlers.

n Matthew Parrin took 4-11 as Wisbech IV dismissed Narborough for 120 in the West Norfolk Division Four and Carl Pope (58) and Adi Clare (45) saw them home with ease.

n An 89 from opener Harry Vaheesan helped Doddington II to a 51-run win at home to Ely II in CCA Division Three North.

Batting first, Doddington made 225-4 in their 40 overs.

Vaheesan was well supported by Kevin Smith (34 not out), Dan Beavis (34) and David Bamford (27 not out).

In reply, Doddington resticted Ely to 174-6.

Ryan Wright took 3-55 for the home team, while Danny Smith took 3-30.

Doddington's first team host St. Ives tomorrow and the second team visit Wimblington.

n Steve Seymour's 106 helped March's first Sunday side beat Newborough by 10 runs in the Rutland Division Two.

Andrew Mills weighed in with 53 and Andrew Devenish followed-up last week's maiden century for the club with an impressive 44 as March finished on 252-7.

Newborough's reply was stifled by some top bowling from Stuart Mills (3-41), Seymour (2-12) and Nigel Wright (2-26).
