LEVERINGTON will be hoping to secure promotion to the West Norfolk Division One when they travel Sandringham on Saturday.

It would be the first time Leverington have played this level of cricket since 1986.

A win will almost guarantee both teams promotion, but if Leverington lose, Sheringham will have a chance to go up in second place.

Second-placed Leverington will face a tough task against the West Norfolk Division Two leaders, who haven't lost a game this season.

Leverington's only defeat came against Sheringham.

Leverington captain Mark Godfrey said: "We've narrowly missed out on promotion a couple of times over the last few years, so this will be a very important game for us.

"We've not done too well against Sandringham at their ground. It's a quaint little ground with an undulating pitch and home advantage is quite big."

Leverington will be missing three key players; Glynn Wilson, Ricky Brown and Shaun Sleight but welcome batsman Simon Gilbert and fast-bowler James Barnard back to the squad.

Godfrey said: "We've won several close matches this season and there's been many times when we've clawed back a win when we looked like we would lose. That shows that our players are good at handling pressure, and I've told them to take each game at a time and not get carried away.

"It will be a very tough match on Saturday but I'm hoping that with a bit of luck we can pull through and get the result we're looking for."

Leverington's scheduled league match with Gooderstone was rained off on Saturday.
