Chelmsford II 0 Wisbech Town I 9

LEAGUE leaders Wisbech consolidated their place at the summit by comprehensively beating Chelmsford.

Wisbech dominated first half possession and territory. They took the lead inside two minutes and were leading 4-0 at half time.

In a much tighter second half, Wisbech still managed to score five with Chelmsford's keeper sent off with the score at 7-0.

Brad Apted scored four with Dan Martell scoring a hat-trick. Luke Smith and Sam Blunt also got on the scoresheet.

Next week, Wisbech host Bourne on Saturday and Ashford (Kent) on Sunday.

Wisbech II 3

Cambridge University III 4

THREE goals were not enough for Wisbech in a hard-fought game against the Cambridge University side.

The fast-flowing game saw Cambridge put four past a hard-working Wisbech defence.

Wisbech will take heart from the game playing a lot better than previous weeks.

Wisbech were unlucky not to get a point late on as a penalty corner was cleared on the line by a Cambridge stick.

Wisbech's goals included a wonder strike from Matt Wate.

Gary Freear and Mark Littlechild also scored.

Next week, Wisbech visit Bourne's second XI.

Wisbech III 1 Boston I 2

WISBECH were unlucky to lose in a good game between two evenly-matched sides.

Two breakaway goals by Boston ensured they had an early lead with Wisbech struggling to find their rhythm.

But the hosts soon fought back with their usual attacking style.

Jon Boyall lifted Wisbech hopes with a well-placed goal past the keeper.

The second half remained goalless. Will Pettit showed great speed and work rate in attack creating some superb chances.

James Dod had another good game in goal, preventing Boston from increasing their lead.

Next week Wisbech entertain Alford at home.

Wisbech I 2 Chelmsford II 1

AFTER a run of three defeats it was important to get a good start to the match with home advantage.

Wisbech put early pressure on their opponents from the start but it was Chelmsford who took an early lead.

Wisbech fought back immediately through veteran Sue Slator, levelling the scores at half-time.

In the second half, they pressed onto Chelmsford's defence with Heidi Smithee's deflected effort clinching victory for Wisbech.

Strong defensive play on the right earned Jodi Peggs the girl of the game award.

Next week, they travel to Ipswich.

HA CUP THIRD ROUND

Poynton 5 Wisbech I 0

UNDAUNTED by the prospect of playing an experienced National League team, Wisbech played with pride and passion.

The Manchester-based hosts showed their class and took the lead in the first minute.

The frantic pace of the game continued and despite valiant performances from the Wisbech defence Poynton dominated.

Some excellent defensive play from keeper Kerry Smith and Jodi Peggs kept the score credible, with the hosts going into half-time 3-0 up.

Wisbech ventured forward in the second half and only conceded two more goals thanks to player of the match Smith.

West Herts I 2 Long Sutton I 4

ONLY a combination of stern defending and wayward finishing by West Herts kept Sutton in the game early on.

West Herts, relegated last year, eventually went ahead via a penalty stroke.

This kick sparked Sutton into action as they found themselves on equal terms at the break, through Nick Bailey.

Bailey put Sutton in front after the interval by deflecting in a penalty corner.

Herts equalised soon after at a time when Sutton had nine men on the field.

Bailey scored twice more to seal victory for the visitors.

Nick Ellis was man of the match for Long Sutton.

Long Sutton host Bury St Edmunds on Saturday and play Crewe Vagrants at home in the HA Trophy Sunday.
