TWO Whittlesey kung-fu students passed their first degree black sashes.

Sandra Wilson and Ritchie Walton passed at Lodge Park Sports Centre, Corby.

The long and demanding grading consisted of many traditional Chinese sets, advanced walking and striking techniques, weapon defences, self defence blocking and sparring.

They are both members of the Lau Gar Kung Fu Club, which holds training sessions at Sir Harry Smith Community College on Wednesdays.

Chief instructor Alex Barrowman said: "They are both a credit to the club as they nailed it on the day and I hope they both keep up the good work."

Wilson is the first female black belt the club has produced.

Walton is the national heavyweight kickboxing champion and holds a 2nd Dan black belt with British Chinese Kickboxing Association Club, which holds training sessions at Sir Harry Smith Community College on Fridays.
