JOE PERRY is out of the Shanghai Masters after losing 5-4 to world No. 18 Jamie Cope in the first round in China this afternoon.

The Chatteris-based snooker player was hoping to gain revenge after Cope, from Stoke, beat him 10-6 in the first round of the World Championships in Sheffield in April.

But Cope came from 2-0 down to take victory.

World No. 12 Perry was quickly out of the blocks with 68 and 97, but Cope won two fragmented frames before making a 71 to go 3-2 ahead.

Perry fought back to 4-4 and led 35-0 in the decider, but Cope made a vital 64 and eventually won it on the brown.

Cope will play world No.3 Shaun Murphy in the second round on Thursday.
