SWIMMER-turned-cyclist Jody Cundy ended his first competitive season in the sport with a staggering performance in which he broke three world records in tWO days.

It has been an extraordinary season for Cundy, from Walpole St Andrew, but his display at the National Senior and Disability Track Championships, at the Manchester Velodrome, well and truly put the icing on the cake.

As reported in the Cambs Times and Wisbech Standard last month, Cundy, 27, set a world record and won gold in the World Cycling Championships, in Switzerland.

But in Manchester, last week, not only did Jody improve on his record, he also set another two.

The drama began on Friday morning when Jody set a Paralympic LC2 world record in the open team sprint event.

The Composite B team of Jody, Darren Kenny and Rick Waddon set a time of 51.910sec, smashing the previous best time by more than half a second.

There was no time to celebrate, however, and later in the day, Jody won the 200m time trial with a blistering sprint of 11.676sec to set another Paralympic world record.

And he wasn't finished there. The following day, Jody pedalled to a time of 1:10.255 in the 1km time trial, beating the LC2 world record time he set in Switzerland by a quarter of a second.

Jody said: "It was a fantastic way to end the season and I really didn't expect to set three world records.

"I will now take some time off before starting winter training but it will be important to try to maintain my form before the start of next season."

Jody hopes that his performances will earn him a call-up to the Australian Championships, in February, but he has his sights set on next summer.

He said: "The World Championships, in Bordeaux, is the next major event and if I can do well there I will be hopeful of being selected for the cycling team for the Beijing Paralympics."

Jody has received a new winter training bike from a Swansea cycle shop and will also be writing a regular blog on the shop's website at www.tredz.co.uk
