WISBECH got their league season off to a terrible start, conceding twice in the first five minutes.

But they got back into the game on the stroke of half-time when Sam Markillie scored on his league debut.

The visitors restored their two-goal lead with a breakaway goal but Wisbech hit back when Dan Martell pounced on a loose ball to make the score 3-2.

The home side were again caught on the break when Pelicans scored a fourth and Jon Shippey's late penalty stroke was little more than a consolation.

PROMOTED Wisbech went up against relegated Ely in their first league game of the season.

The home side took a 2-0 lead into the break and continued to dominate in the second half.

Peter Shippey and Shaun Claxton produced heroics in the Wisbech defence but Ely scored three more.

The visitors netted a consolation through Gary Freear's individual strike.

WISBECH were given a scare but began their league campaign with a thrilling victory.

A hat-trick from man of the match Henry Rosier, together with goals from Robin Johnson and Jon Boyall, put the home side in control and 5-2 up at the break.

However, Wisbech allowed the visitors back into the game and they scored three to level the scores.

Skipper Edward Atkins restored the Wisbech lead but City once again came back to make it 6-6 with only minutes remaining.

However, Wisbech clinched victory with a dramatic winner from Josh Harvey.

PROMOTED Wisbech started slowly and their young defence, with an average age of just 15, were kept on their toes.

But the visitors slowly got back into the game and Adam Fairbrother's penalty stroke gave them a 1-0 lead.

Wisbech looked likely to score every time they went forward and Adam Jones netted from a short corner to give Wisbech a 2-0 half-time lead.

Fairbrother latched on to a short corner to make it 3-0 and a late goal from March was no more than a consolation.

Sweeper Ivan Burgess was named as Wisbech's man of the match.
