Wisbech’s hockey sides experienced yet another mixed bag of results last weekend as they played out their final fixtures of the month.

Wisbech mens firsts travelled to Waltham Forest firsts looking to end their away-day hoodoo, but failed to find their first victory of 2016 after suffering a 4-1 defeat to the high-flying London club.

The firsts still only have one away win this season, and now find themselves sixth in the Premier B Division of the Cambs Hockey League, 26 points adrift of table-toppers Letchworth firsts.

Wisbech’s second side drew 1-1 with a dogged Horncastle firsts - their first draw of the season - which ended their three match losing streak.

The seconds, who are now without a win since early December, sit in fifth in Division Three North-West.

The thirds are also without a win since December, and suffered a third consecutive defeat after they were pipped 5-4 away at Cambridge Nomads seconds.

The nine-goal thriller leaves Wisbech in ninth in Divsion Four North-West, seven points above struggling Ely City seconds.

Wisbech’s fourth side were secured arguably the result of the weekend, after edging Bourne Deeping fifths 2-1 to bag only their third win of the season.

The young side have struggled for form this season, but their determined victory will give them encouragement heading into the latter stages of their league campaign.

Wisbech ladies sides also had mixed success, with only one of their three teams experiencing a win.

It was their first team who took all three points, after a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Norwich Dragons firsts.

The first team bounced back from last week’s defeat to Bedford seconds with their 11t win of the season, which sees them move to within four points of Division One North leaders Norwich City firsts.

Wisbech seconds faired less successfully, however, after being on the wrong end of a 4-0 hammering by Long Sutton firsts.

Similarly, Wisbech thirds also conceded four - losing 4-2 to Skegness firsts.
