WISBECH Ladies dropped points for only the second time this season during a winless weekend for the town’s hockey teams.

HIGH-FLYING Norwich pipped Wisbech in an enthralling match.

The visitors took an early lead but Wisbech levelled through Matt Levanda, who converted a rebound after David Wood’s strike had been kept out.

Wisbech took the lead soon after the break when Joe Melton smashed home a short corner, but two late goals saw Norwich secure a vital three points.

A SPIRITED team performance from Wisbech almost caused an upset against league-leaders Cambridge South.

The home side took the lead with a stunning individual effort but Wisbech battled back, grabbing an equaliser through James Turner.

A succession of second-half penalty corners eventually took their toll on the visitors and they conceded the winner late on.

WISBECH were beaten by a strong Nomads side who went ahead from an early penalty corner.

The home side equalised through the in-form Richard Claxton and then took the lead with a deflected effort from Adam Thomas.

But Nomads levelled immediately and pushed on in the second half, finding the net twice more to take home the points. Ivan Burgess was man of the match.

East Women’s Hockey League - Division Two North-West

Long Sutton 0 Shefford & Sandy 1

AN injury to key player Amy Kirkham marred Long Sutton’s fixture with a feisty Shefford & Sandy side.

Kirkham was taken to hospital with a dislocated knee mid-way through the second half and Sutton suffered a further blow when the visitors struck a winner in the last 10 seconds of the game.
