Hockey round-up: Hat-trick hero Peggs keeps Wisbech Ladies top of the league

WISBECH Ladies and Men’s first teams continued their unbeaten start to the hockey season, in a mixed weekend for the town’s sides.
East Women’s Hockey League - Division One North
Wisbech 5 Harleston Magpies II 0
A hat-trick from Jane Peggs helped table-topping Wisbech Ladies first team cruise to an emphatic 5-0 win over Harleston Magpies 2nds.
Wisbech dominated the tie from the outset, and scored two further goals from short corners, Claire Apted and Sue Slator the scorers.
Natalie Ward and Sue Slator shared the player of the match award, for their tireless work in midfield.
East Men’s Hockey League - Premier Division B
Wisbech 3 Cambridge University II 3
Wisbech Men’s first team continued their unbeaten start to the season, coming from behind three times to secure an exciting 3-3 draw with Cambridge University 2nds.
Wisbech were behind twice in the first half but equalised both times through Bradley Apted.
After conceding a third goal early in the second half, it was left to Gary Freear to rescue a draw for Wisbech bundling the ball over the line.
The result leaves Wisbech in fourth place as they prepare to visit league leaders Dereham this weekend.

Wisbech III 2 Cambs City IV 2
Goals from Pete Shippey and captain Dom Stannard helped Wisbech come back from two goals down to earn a point against Cambs City.
East Men’s Hockey League - Division Five North-West
Newmarket 7 Wisbech IV 0
Despite winning eight short corners against Newmarket, Wisbech struggled to contain the table toppers, conceding seven goals.
Cambridgeshire Ladies League - Premier Division
Spalding 3 Wisbech Ladies II 0
Wisbech put in a brave second half performance to keep the score down against a strong Spalding side, with Roma Coates and goalkeeper Alice Murray voted players of the match.
