WISBECH Hockey Club enjoyed a stunning weekend of results as both the mens and ladies first teams bagged comprehensive victories and the thirds thumped their local rivals.

East Men’s Hockey League - Premier Division B

Long Sutton 1 Wisbech 4

WISBECH consolidated their spot in third place of the league by netting a comfortable win over neighbours Long Sutton.

The visitors dominated the match taking the lead through Aaron Cobb before Tom Jupp grabbed a deserved second.

A penalty flick from Jon Shippey put Wisbech three ahead but the hosts pulled one back.

Wisbech made the game safe when Matt Levanda touched home a short corner and despite a flurry of late yellow cards the visitors held on for a vital win.

AFTER lifting themselves off the bottom of the table with an outstanding 5-2 win last week, Wisbech struggled to continue their form against a strong Peterborough side.

Peterborough broke the deadlock with a fortunate first-half goal and despite a series of penalty corners the home side could find no reply. The visitors made the game safe with a late second.

A MAGNIFICENT weekend for Wisbech Hockey Club was typified by their third team who thumped fierce rivals March 8-1.

The Wisbech side were in sublime form, producing flowing attacking hockey to outclass their Fenland counterparts.

Richard Claxton was the hero for the visitors, netting a staggering five goals with a ruthless display of finishing.

East Women’s Hockey League - Division One North

Wisbech 8 Cambridge City II 0

TITLE-CHASING Wisbech put in another dominant showing to smash bottom side Cambridge City II.

Captain Natalie Ward opened the scoring for the unbeaten ladies before Clare Apted bagged a first-half brace.

After the interval Wisbech continued to pour forward with a double from Georgie Dunn and goals from Jane Peggs, Erika Burrel and Jo Bland sealing another commanding victory.

THE Wisbech ladies waltzed to their second win of the weekend after scoring an extra-time winner to beat Newark in a re-arranged cup fixture.

After going behind early on and being reduced to nine players due to yellow cards, Clare Apted struck the equaliser from a penalty corner to take the tie to extra time. Apted then netted again to put Wisbech into the next round.

East Women’s Hockey League - Division Two North-West

Long Sutton 3 Bourne 1

UNBEATEN Long Sutton took another step towards the league title by coming from behind to beat Bourne.

After conceding in the first half, neat interplay from Holly Naismith, Ali Hobson and Mel Ludlam secured the equaliser.

Second-half strikes from Lisa Baker and Amy Kirkham secured the win for Sutton, whose man of the match was Leanne Woodhead.
