It appears that cricketers also make rather useful hockey players.

Wisbech 2nds roared to a 6-1 win against Bourne Deeping 3rds in Division Four North-West last Saturday – and all of the goals were provided by men who spend their summers representing the town’s cricket club.

Gary Freear hit a hat-trick, Danny Haynes struck twice and Lewis Jackson also found the net for the unbeaten side.

Wisbech 3rds are still waiting for their first win of the new campaign after being held to a 2-2 draw by St Neots 3rds in Division Five North-West.

Another classy cricketer, Josh Bowers, hit their opening goal which was followed by an Olly Brown strike, but their lead was wiped out before half-time.

The Wisbech side then had two goals ruled out as they dominated the second half of a game in which they felt they dropped two points rather than gained one.

The 4ths were involved in a goalless draw for the first time in more than three years. That was against Spalding 5ths in Division Six North-West (North) after they had a goal from a short corner disallowed in the first half.

Wisbech 1sts fell to a first Premier B Division loss of the season. They went down 2-0 to Norwich City with both goals arriving in quick succession in the second half.

And Wisbech Ladies 1sts also tasted defeat for the first time in the East Women’s League.

They were beaten 3-1 at table-topping Norwich City in Division One North despite hitting the front through player-of-the-match Vicky Herbert.

Wisbech 2nds saw their tough start to the season continue with a third successive defeat in Division Two North-West. They were beaten 8-0 by Cambridge Nomads.
