TENNIS fever has taken over the nation with the world-famous Wimbledon championships starting this week.

And if watching the best players in the world inspires you to get out on the court, the tennis clubs in March and Wisbech are always keen to recruit new members.

March Tennis Club treasurer Martin Dawson said: "Everyone will be gripped to the television screens over the next few weeks, but many don't know much about their local club.

"If there are any budding Andy Murrays, Roger Federers or Venus Williams's out there, we'd love to hear from them."

March Tennis Club opened in 2001, is based at Neale-Wade Sports Centre and has two teams.

The A Team plays in the Peterborough and District Division Two while the B Team is currently second in the Peterborough and District Division Four.

Wisbech Tennis Club, based next to the Hudson Leisure Centre, has six teams.

Two play in the Norfolk Leagues and four play in the Hunts and Peterborough Leagues.

Both clubs offer casual membership, where players can play when they choose and organise internal tournaments.

Coaching can be provided for players at various skill levels.

Lisa Kennedy, a coach at Wisbech Tennis Club said: "We really are well suited for anyone interested in tennis. We offer coaching for absolute beginners and the range in quality of our teams is from those experiencing their first taste of competitive tennis to top local players."

March Tennis Club's courts are open to members from 5-10pm, Monday to Friday and 9am-6pm on Saturdays and Sundays.

Club nights are on Mondays from 6pm and league fixtures are played on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings

Coaching is held on Friday evenings, from 4-5pm for young beginners, 5-6pm for intermediate players and 6-7pm for advanced players.

Wisbech Tennis Club hold come and play sessions for anyone wishing to find out more about the club.

These are on Monday to Thursday from 6.30pm until dark and cost £3 per session.

The club is holding a junior tournament this Sunday.

It will be for boys and girls from under-10s to under-18s.

The deadline for entries is 7.30pm today (Friday) and anyone interested in playing should contact Ms Kennedy on 07788 857502.

The club is also holding a tournament for adults at Wisbech Grammar School's AstroTurf courts on July 5 and for information about this visit the club.
