Golfer wins junior title

GOLFER Sam Hughes won the Milton Golf Club Junior Open. The 17-year-old from Eastrea beat off competition from about 60 other players to win the title on Monday. Players hailed from various clubs with some coming from as far as Woodhall Spa, Lincolnshire

GOLFER Sam Hughes won the Milton Golf Club Junior Open.

The 17-year-old from Eastrea beat off competition from about 60 other players to win the title on Monday.

Players hailed from various clubs with some coming from as far as Woodhall Spa, Lincolnshire.

In strong wind and blustery conditions Hughes scored 74 on the 72-par course.

He is a member of Milton Golf Club, has been playing competitively for five years and plays off a 2.5 handicap.

Hughes has also represented Cambridgeshire and under-18 and under-16 level.

He said: "There were some good players and conditions so I'm really happy with my score.

"I've got lots of competitions coming up and I'm confident that if I can stay in this kind of form I can pick up a few more titles.
