GOALKEEPER Chris Anker is to quit March Town United and striker Lewis Leckie has also left the club.

Hares manager Jamie Weston is aiming to replace Anker with former March and Wisbech stopper Lee Brookes, 26, and has put a seven day notice of approach to Brookes' current club, Ridgeons Premier Division outfit Swaffham Town.

Anker, 22, is moving to London for work commitments.

He will be available until their match at Cornard United on October 17.

Weston said: "Chris is an outstanding goalkeeper and a key player for the club so it's a big blow for us that he's leaving.

"Lee is as good a replacement or at least as good a replacement as you're going to get.

"He's got good Ridgeons League experience. I just have to persuade him to come and join us."

Leckie signed from Diss and scored on his March debut - a 3-2 extra time FA Vase win over Sileby Rangers on September 5.

Weston said: "Lewis has not been with us very long but he feels he has not settled in very well and is not enjoying his football. I don't know if he has plans to play elsewhere."

Meanwhile March booked their place in the first round proper of the FA Vase with a 2-1 win at Rushden and Higham United on Saturday.

The win netted the club 900 and they will play Ridgeons Premier Division side CRC away on October 3.

March took the lead shortly before half-time when Ash Brand finished from close range after Michael Anker's shot was charged down.

Brand added a second after 60 minutes when he calmly finished from a one-on-one after Gary Roddis's long clearance.

The hosts pulled one back after a break in the 80th minute but March hung on for victory.

Weston, whose side play Team Bury at home in the league on Saturday, said: "It wasn't a great game but we did enough. We're looking forward to the CRC game. It will be a good experience for us to play at the Abbey Stadium and CRC are a good young side who get the ball down and play good football. It always suits us to play teams like that because we like to play the same way. We played CRC last year and got beat in extra-time. There's no reason why we can't go there and get a result.

"I expect the Bury game this weekend will be a similar challenge because they are also a decent young side. They have already beaten Mildenhall in the cup this season but have lost four of their six league games, so it will be interesting to see what happens.
