BOXERS in Sheffield use the motto "train hard...fight easy."

It's an approach that Chatteris puncher Jordan Gill has clearly taken on board having sparred with British welterweight champion Kell Brook last week.

Gill, 15, faces potentially the toughest test of his life when he fights the highly rated Jake Heel from Broad Plaines ABC, Bristol, on Sunday for a place in the final of the National CYP finals.

Sheffield coach Dominic Ingle has trained world champions Naseem Hammed, Johnny Nelson, as well as Brook who is aiming to move a step closer to a WBO world title fight with Manny Pacquiao when he takes on Poland's Krzysztof Bienias on Friday night.

Ingle said: "Jordan's been coming up here to spar for a few years.

"When he first came up here he was a kid. But he's matured so much and he's got a real aggression and hunger.

"He's quick, he moves well and he thinks in the ring. He's got a really good chance of going on and winning his final.

"Sparring with Kell Brook is excellent experience for Jordan - it gives him an idea of the level he has to reach. Kell used to spar with Naseem Hammed when he was Jordan's age."

Carl Luckock, owner of the Sheffield gym said: "Jordan's a very exciting young talent and he's made good improvements in the last few months.

"I think he can go on to become a very good professional when he's older. It's very important that he comes up here more regularly to get some top quality sparring and it would be great if someone could sponsor him so he can do this."

Gill also sparred with national champions George Grotty, Levi Raymond and Billy Lee last week.

His coach and father Paul Gill said: "Jordan's in excellent shape and looking forward to his fight. I guy I know said he read in the Daily Telegraph that Ricky Hatton had named him as a one to watch for the future."

Gill trained with Hatton in August.

Elsewhere, Chatteris boxer Luke McVicar beat Sandy's Mick Mustafa on a unanimous decision at a dinner show in Bedford on Monday night.

The Chatteris fight night, on May 22, has been sponsored by Global Tiles.
