Wisbech Town ladies suffered back to back home losses in the league over the weekend.

On Saturday, Katie Rodger finished off a good attacking move to give Wisbech the lead against East Division 1N leaders Cambridge University.

But, despite some goal line heroics from Laura Overland, the visitors levelled before half time.

Early into the second half Wisbech conceded a further two goals from some quick attacking play from the Cambridge forwards.

Wisbech showed some excellent spirit and continued to play some positive attacking hockey but they could not find the back of the net.

The visitors struck again to give the score line an unfair reflection.

On Sunday, Jane Peggs gave Wisbech the lead against Cambridge City, before the visitors equalised from a short corner.

Midway through the second half Wisbech fell behind to a well worked Cambridge goal, which came against the run of play.

Wisbech levelled through Peggs, who finished off good work from Nat Ward.

But, in the last minute, the visitors bagged the winner from a short corner.

The ladies, who sit fourth in the league, travel to Bedford II on Saturday for their final match of the campaign.

Captain Leanne Williamson said: “I’m bitterly disappointed with the weekend’s results. The score lines did not reflect the games as we played some fantastic hockey both days and everyone put in 100 per cent.

“We will hope to build on this for our final game at Bedford.”

Wisbech men have one last chance to avoid going through the season pointless after a 4-1 loss at second bottom Felixstowe. Will Denny got their goal.

They host Chelmsford in their final clash of an immensely challenging season.
