WISBECH fifths enjoyed a competitive and good-spirited pre-season friendly against their neighbours.

The game started off with some lively play, the ball being sprayed around the pitch and chances at both ends.

A halt came to the game midway through the first half with a chilling advert to wear a gum shield; Tom Drew being caught in the backswing of a Sutton hit, bleeding with a sliced lip and chipping a tooth he finished his part in the game.

Wisbech snatched the lead with Howard Atkins taking full advantage of the new self-pass rule before creaming it into the top corner at a tight angle.

Sutton equalised just before half-time but Wisbech regained the lead with a true hockey goal passed around the midfield to the baseline flicked back for Danny Howard to slot in.

Sutton equalised again when the ball was slapped in from just past the penalty spot.

n Elsewhere recently promoted Long Sutton ladies' first team opened their East Division 1N campaign with a 1-1 home draw to Harleston Magpies seconds.

Magpies lead against the run of play and Sutton defended superbly to keep it 1-0 at half-time.

Sutton passed well in the second half and a well-oiled training drill short corner allowed Robyn Gribble to equalise mid-way through the half.

Leanne Woodhead received player of the match for her outstanding performance in defence.
