THREE home boxers were successful at a spectacular night's boxing in Chatteris on Saturday.

Jordan Gill, Joseph Payne and Chris Brown all won their contests when Chatteris ABC hosted an open show at Cromwell Community College.

But Chatteris coach Paul Gill hailed the performance of 17-year-old Jordan Tilsley as the best of the night.

The 72kg puncher was competing in his second senior fight and lost on a majority decision to Barney Jones of Tottenham and Enfield ABC.

Gill said: "This was the best I've seen from Jordan. He was up against a very good fighter and everyone thought he had done enough to win it. He fought with style and picked his shots superbly and I'm sure he will have a good future as a senior fighter."

Twenty-year-old Eastern Region Light Heavyweight champion Brown edged to a split decision victory over the hard-hitting Matt Jack of New Astley ABC.

After a fast and furious three rounds, Brown tired in the final round but held on for victory.

Payne's light welterweight bout with Stevenage ABC's Billy Grotty saw two prolific body punchers go head to head.

After four bruising rounds, Payne won on a majority decision.

Chatteris's England international Jordan Gill showed his class by comfortably beating a national Royal Navy Golden Gloves champion, who fights a weight above him.

The 13-year-old 52-54kg hitter outmanoeuvred George Grotty, of Stevenage ABC on a unanimous decision.

The other Chatteris fighter in action was 14-year-old Richard Calaunan.

The 51kg boxer lost to New Astley ABC's Riely Vinden on a split decision.

Paul Gill said: "It was an absolutely superb night. We put on 15 fights and more than 400 people came and saw some great boxing.

"I would like to thank Matty Payne for all of his hard work in helping to put the show on, he really is the backbone of the club, and Cromwell Community College for allowing us to use their premises.
