MARCH Town Cricket Club's annual three-day festival took place last week.

About 120 boys and girls received coaching and played games on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

This is the fourth year the club have held this festival.

Educational activities took place, with input from HMP Whitemoor staff, Cambridgeshire Fire Service, The Army, St Johns Ambulance and sports coaches. Friday was fun day with several bouncy castles for all the children to enjoy.

A presentation evening was held on Friday.

All the children received a bag containing a FENMARC baseball cap, tennis ball, medal and a certificate.

Trophies were also presented to youngsters who performed well.

March Town Cricket Club has recently received a £900 grant from Fenland District Council, to provide facilities for the junior section.

Steve Garrett, the council's cabinet member for Sport, Leisure and Young People, and Hetty Thornton, community development officer, presented the club with a plaque.

The event was sponsored by FENMARC and Bob Terry, with draw prizes donated by local businesses and club members.

March Town Cricket Club chairman Les Mills said: "Our club coach Bill Adamson arranged this festival with help from other club coaches.

"His hard work, organisation skills and enthusiasm ensured the festival was very successful.

"I would also like to thank all the other coaches and helpers over the three days who ensured all the children had a great time. I must finally also mention all the male and female teenage members who acted as team leaders and ensured all the children were in the right place at the right time.
