Wisbech Town boss Appleby demands more from “underachieving” troops after 0-0 draw at Woodbridge Town

WISBECH Town boss Steve Appleby has demanded more from his “underachieving” troops after admitting Saturday’s 0-0 draw at Woodbridge Town left him with mixed emotions.
The Fenmen could have been 1-0 ahead at the break had Ash Stevens’ goal not been disallowed for handball but needed ‘keeper Lea Jordan to pull off a number of fine saves in the second half to secure a point.
“I was left with mixed emotions because since the last time we played them they’ve not lost and drew with Leiston,” said Appleby.
“A point away from home is fair enough but I just feel we are under achieving at the minute.
“Ash swears blind he headed the ball into the net and the referee’s ineptness has cost us again but I don’t want to be too critical because Lea Jordan made some incredible saves in the second half to earn us a point.
“We’re drawing too many games and that can’t keep going on because we’ve slipped to mid-table.
“If we win a couple of games we can move back up to fifth so it’s not a major issue but I think we need to do better.”
Appleby, who is targeting a top-six finish, has now urged his side to pick up three points when they host Norwich United on Saturday.
He said: “I had a heart-to-heart with Dearo (Chris Dear, assistant) because we both feel we’re underachieving and we need to get the players to start believing in themselves more.
“We’re playing a lot of sides around us now and we need to take advantage by turning some of these draws into wins.
“Time will tell if the squad we’ve put together is capable of being where we want them to be.”
