Wisbech St Mary boss Arran Duke is hoping next week’s Fenland derby can be the perfect tonic for their first defeat in five league matches.

Robbie Harris’ strike had given St Mary the lead on their trip to Whitton United, but the Ipswich outfit fired back with two goals of their own - including a last-minute winner - to snatch all three points last Saturday.

And now, Duke is hoping his men can bounce back and provide the club’s supporters with some more festive cheer with a post-Christmas success over March Town in the Fenland derby on December 27.

“Missed chances ended up costing us,” he said.

“We went into the game with a few players out through injury and illness so we knew we would have it tough.

“The lads played some decent stuff and I can’t fault the work rate.

“We go again and can hopefully get a win again March.

“I’m expecting all our injured players available for selection again which will be another massive boost ahead of what will be a tough derby day.”

St Mary then travel to Haverhill Borough for their first game of the New Year on January 2 (3pm).
