RIDGEONS DIVISION ONE

Brantham Athletic 2 March Town United 1

MARCH manager Jamie Weston believes his side must become more clinical in front of goal to turn themselves into serious promotion contenders.

Weston watched his side waste more than a dozen chances during a frustrating afternoon on Saturday.

The result pushed Brantham up to third and saw March slip to sixth.

Weston said: "It was absolutely unbelievable that we came away with nothing. We battered them for large periods of the game - we had about 10 or 12 chances in the last 30 minutes and we had two good penalty shouts in the second half. For one of them Denny Escorcio was kicked for 10 yards by a defender and then completely taken out by another player when he got in the box.

"But taking chances is the difference between being a mid-table side and a team pushing for promotion."

In the first half Escorcio was denied three times from six yards when connecting with crosses from the left and James Richarson forced a good save with a 20-yard effort.

Brantham took the lead 10 minutes before half-time when Ollie Mann scored breakaway goal.

Mann doubled the advantage early in the second half when the March defence failed to deal with a long ball and he was afforded too much space in the box.

Luke Pepper headed into an empty net 10 minutes from time after a cross deceived the Brantham goalkeeper.

March host Gorleston on Saturday and Saffron Walden on Tuesday.

Weston said: "We lost 3-0 Saffron Walden earlier this season and it was very similar to the Brantham game. We failed to take our chances and switched off at the back.
