Wisbech St Mary collected two away wins in the space of three days.

Arran Duke’s men continued a pleasing end to a tough Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division campaign with a 2-0 success at Diss Town last Saturday which was swiftly followed by a 2-1 triumph at bottom side Team Bury on Monday night.

Nick Davey made a 70th minute breakthrough at Diss before substitute Tomas Jakutis climbed off the bench to hit a late clincher.

Saints then produced a second-half turnaround at Team Bury. They trailed at the break but Davey levelled before leading scorer Jack Friend hit the winner with 10 minutes to go.

“They are two important and hard-fought wins for us,” said boss Duke. “The squad is really stretched with so much football, but everyone dug really deep.”

But the busy schedule took its toll on Saints when they were beaten 4-1 by high-flying Framlingham at the ABC Meats Stadium last night (Wednesday) - a result which sealed promotion to the Premier Division for the visiting side.

Friend again found the net for Duke’s men before Davey missed a late penalty which would have reduced their arrears to 3-2 and set up an exciting finish.

Duke added: “The win on Monday came at a cost as we picked up a few knocks - most notably Craig Ablett with a head injury.

“We looked really tired against Framlingham, which was perfectly understandable. They are a decent side as well.”

Saints face two more home tests in the coming days. They entertain Debenhams LC tomorrow and then host second-bottom Needham Market Reserves on Wednesday night.
