THE attitude of the Wisbech Town players was called into question by Ian Jones after handing in his resignation last week.

But caretaker manager Roy McManus believes that former co-managers Jones and Mattless had lost the backing of the players.

On his departure, Jones revealed: "The squad has the ability but their attitude has not been right.

"Players were calling me only a couple of hours before kick-off to say they could not play. I expect more commitment than that."

McManus said: "Maybe Ian found it hard to keep the dressing room after heavy defeats.

"I think some of the lads were unwilling to listen when things were not working out on the pitch.

"I have looked into the faces of the players in the dressing room during the past week and talked to them about the 9-0 defeat to Soham.

"I have made it clear that people are paying good money to watch them and they should wear the shirt with pride.

"I have already had issues with players' availability but they have been up front with me and that is all I can ask.
