THE feel-good factor remains in March after the Hares pulled off a shock win.

Town now have a tough home match against Ridgeons Premier outfit Leiston in the next round.

Under the guidance of current Wisbech boss Steve Taylor, Haverhill have been the Ridgeons League's most successful FA Cup team for the past two seasons.

But goals from Luke Pepper and Dave Weston dumped them out of football's oldest competition on Tuesday.

Pepper fired March into the lead with a superb goal after 30 minutes.

The midfielder chased Shaun Colson's through-ball and lofted the ball over a defender then goalkeeper and a Haverhill defender's efforts to clear off the line were in vein.

It was Pepper's fifth goal in four games this season.

The game remained tight with few chances until Dave Weston doubled March's lead on the hour.

Weston broke into the box and held his nerve to finish from a one-on-one with the goalkeeper.

A Haverhill striker smashed the post with a shot from the edge of the box from the edge of the box in the 75th minute and March goalkeeper Chris Anker made a good save in the dying minutes to earn his clean sheet.

March boss Brett Whaley said: "It was an excellent team effort and an excellent result against a good Ridgeons Premier Division side.

"Everyone's been buzzing here from the start of the season and there's a belief this squad can go far.

"I'm just hoping the performance against Godmanchester was a one-off and we can find some consistency."

Tuesday night's replay came after Saturday's 2-2 draw in which a dramatic late equaliser kept Haverhill in the cup.

Haverhill took a 1-0 lead into half-time, Pepper collected a through-ball and rounded the goalkeeper to equalise, seven minutes after the re-start, and Ashley Brand lobbed the goalkeeper to put March 2-1 up three minutes later.

But Joe Harvey poked home Marc Abbott's free-kick to earn the replay.

n March will play Leiston at the GER on August 30.

The match was due to be played away but Leiston's ground will be unavailable.

The Hares now turn their attentions to league action and they are away to Diss Town tomorrow and then Fakenham on Tuesday.

Whaley said: "Diss are many people's favourites to win promotion so this match will be a real test of how far we have come.

"Fakenham were at the bottom end of the league last season, but we've often struggled against the lesser sides so I'm expecting the boys to be fully up for it."

Andy Wayte is struggling with a groin injury and Lee White has a damaged knee and both players are expected to be out for at least a fortnight.
