Wisbech Town legend Chris Bacon has re-signed for the club.

“Bakes” was a member of the Wisbech side that finished runners-up in the Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division in 2011-12 and fourth the previous season in what was then called the Ridgeons League.

For the past couple of seasons, he has been splitting his time between playing in New Zealand and for EvoStick Southern League Premier Division side Cambridge City.

He scored 70 goals in 98 appearances (94 starts) over the course of those two seasons. He has also played for King’s Lynn (both incarnations), Mildenhall Town, Dereham Town and Grantham Town.

Whilst playing abroad, Chris has turned out for Sunshine Coast Fire (Australia), Canterbury City and Cashmere Technical (both New Zealand).

Manager Brett Whaley hsaid: “I’m delighted to welcome Chris Bacon back to the football club. It’s obvious how well he is respected at the club for what he did in his previous spell here, and hopefully he can carry on from where he left off.

“The speed of this signing is down to how much Chris wanted to come back, and we can’t wait to get him involved and scoring goals again. It’s a massive signing for the club!”

The club would also like to thank Cambridge City secretary Andy Dewey for his invaluable assistance which allows Chris to go into tonight’s squad to face Yaxley.

Striker Charley Sanders has left the club and signed for EvoStick League Division One South side Spalding United.

The 20-year-old had started the first three games of the season - scoring his only competitive goal on the opening day - before coming on as sub during Saturday’s win over Harborough.

Whaley said: “It’s a good opportunity for Charley to play at a higher level at a club going places. He’s been excellent during his short spell here, and I wish him all the best on his move.

“We weren’t looking to make any changes to our squad, but with Charley and Nick (Davey) before him leaving, we may need to bring another forward in.”
