TOP Wisbech centre-back Paul Cousins is making a speedy recovery from a foot injury and may be back on the pitch within a fortnight.

The uncompromising defender broke his foot in the Fenmen's 1-0 home league defeat to Dereham Town on December 29.

Wisbech manager Roy McManus had previously hoped Cousins would recover in time for Easter, but the player had a plaster cast taken off last week and is recovering quicker than expected.

McManus said: "Paul is a very important player for us so to have him back early would be a massive boost.

"He's been seeing Phil Ward, who is a professional physio with Norwich City, and getting some very good advice.

"The prognosis is extremely positive and I'm optimistic that he could be available in two to three weeks."

McManus is also positive about the fitness of striker Darren Edey, who siuffered a calf injury on Saturday.

He said: "We've not got a fixture this weekend anyway, so I think Darren will be back for our next match."

Wisbech play Histon Reserves at home in the league on February 16.
