Appleby targets unbeaten finish as Wisbech Town battle to second victory in four days

WISBECH Town boss Steve Appleby said his side are targeting an unbeaten finish to the season after the Fenmen battled to two away victories in four days.
Ash Stevens and Darren Jimson scored as Wisbech saw off relegated Debenham LC 2-0 on Saturday and the Fenmen sealed a successful week by beating Brantham Athletic last night.
Jimson doubled Callum Reed’s strike to secure a 2-1 win, bagging Wisbech’s 100th goal of the season to keep them in line for their best Ridgeons Premier Division finish in seven years.
Appleby singled out Anthony Reeve for praise after the centre-back put in an inspired performance to contain the league’s top goalscorer Ollie Mann.
He said: “We had expected a tough game and it was. I need to hail our players because we travelled three hours and stood toe to toe with Brantham. We had a right battle and we came out on top.
“All the players rolled their sleeves up. They worked their socks off for each other and it was one of the most satisfying results of the season.
“It was a performance of confidence and togetherness. We have just got to keep it going. We have said: ‘let’s try and go the rest of the season unbeaten’.”
The Fenmen have three home league games before their much-anticipated Ridgeons League Cup Final with Wroxham.
Midfielder Adam Weston is likely to miss the rest of the season after damaging his knee ligaments. Jon Fairweather is also absent for the Fenmen’s clash with Debenham LC on Saturday. They will also host Newmarket Town on Monday.
Appleby added: “We need to set ourselves up nicely. When we get on runs we walk on the pitch and feel invincible - like we are not going to lose. We need to go into the cup final with that sort of confidence.”
