RIDGEONS PREMIER DIVISION

Wisbech Town 4 Walsham-le-Willows 1

HIGH-FLYING Walsham were sent crashing down to earth as braces from Scott Cubberley and Darren Jimson saw Wisbech cruise to their biggest win of the season so far.

And the mood will remain high this week with Fenmen player-manager Gary Setchell confirming that striker Rory Harper is set to sign this week from King's Lynn.

He said: "We've been playing well in all but two of our games this season so it's great to turn the performance into a result.

"I'm confident we can beat some of the top sides in the division when we play to our potential and the addition of Rory Harper will only make us stronger."

Fenmen fans were shocked to see striker Billy Smith come out wearing the No. 2 shirt on Saturday.

But the speedy 23-year-old picked up the man-of-the-match award for a tireless display at right-wing-back.

Wisbech boss Gary Setchell said: "Charlie Defty was unavailable so I took a bit of a gamble with Billy at wing-back and he was superb. I expect that he can continue to play in that position and make it his own."

Prior to the match, Walsham had won four and lost one of their five league games and conceded just two goals, while Wisbech had won one, drawn one and lost three and went into Saturday's match on the back of a 4-0 FA Cup defeat to Needham Market.

Cubberley opened the scoring 10 minutes before half-time, collecting a through-ball before calmly slotting home from eight yards.

The same man doubled the lead from the penalty spot in the 41st minute after Kevin White was fouled following a delightful one-two.

Jimson made it 3-0 in the 53rd minute after he collected a floated pass and smashed the ball into the bottom left side of the net and then added the fourth nine minutes later with a tap-in after poor defending allowed the ball to bounce around the penalty area following a low corner.

The visitors scored a late consolation goal from the penalty spot.

Wisbech hope to take their form into Tuesday's home league game against Histon Reserves.

Setchell said: "It was a cracking performance from the lads. They played some delightful football and when we play like that we can beat anyone in the division.

"Histon's first team will be playing on Tuesday night so we can be confident of getting a positive result.
