Fenmen depleted for trip to league leaders Needham Market

WISBECH player-manager Gary Setchell faces a tough task trying to extend the club's 12 game unbeaten run when he takes a severely depleted squad to league leaders Needham Market on Saturday.

The Fenmen will be without goalkeeper Alex Street, plus Charlie Defty, Ross Kelly, Kevin Leggett, Darren Jimson and Jordan Yong.

The Suffolk club have 16 points more than fifth-placed Wisbech, who have a game in hand.

The Fenmen beat Haverhill 4-1 at home on Saturday while Needham Market beat the same team 4-2 at home on Tuesday.

Setchell said: "It's a shame that we're going to the league leaders with our squad so stretched while we're in such a good run of form.

"It will give some of the fringe players a chance to show me what they can do. We should have a decent starting 11 but we may be a bit thin on the bench. I'll probably have to name myself as a substitute, but we are definitely going to go there and try and win the game."

He added: "We produced a good workmanlike performance to beat Haverhill on Saturday. They came at us in the first half and we matched them in the battle before running away with it in the second half."

Saturday's match saw both managers and a player from each team sent off.

Setchell and Rovers boss Peter Betts got their marching orders late in the game for entering the pitch during a fracas between players from both sides.

Wisbech substitute Kevin White and Haverhill's Stuart Kingham were red carded for violent conduct.

Rory Harper gave Wisbech the lead in the fifth minute with a good low drive from 20 yards.

The same man doubled the advantage when he beat the Haverhill goalkeeper in an aerial battle to head home in the 37th minute.

After Haverhill pulled one back Scott Cubberley headed home from six yards after Billy Smith's cross and Smith's low cross from the right allowed Cubberley to complete the scoring with a simple finish.
