THE rise of Fenland Running Club was clear to see at the weekend with an impressive team debut in the first race of the regional Frostbite League.

As first timers, Fenland finished sixth team out of the 16 teams which were drawn from across the region.

The five-mile race around Priory Park in St Neots saw Fenland's 10 best-placed runners finish highly. The stand-out performance was from Steve Cockrell, finishing 31st in a time of 30mins 28secs.

Solid performances from Ady Martin (31mins 36secs in 54th) and Jack Trow (31mins 52secs in 59th) were matched by the ladies with Becky Cousins finishing as fifth female runner overall (33mins 27secs in 93rd overall) and Maire Irlam (36mins in 174th).

The team competition required the first seven men and first three ladies to count and so the result hinged on the whole team's effort.

The next race in the series is on November 8.
