SCHOOLBOY karting star George Russell was robbed of a podium place in his first final of the season after his chain snapped.

The Tydd St Giles teenager led his debut WSK Euro Series KF3 event for five laps and looked set to secure at least third position. However, Russell was unable to cross the line despite a promising performance at the first round of the competition in Sarno, Italy.

The 13-year-old did pick up nine championship points though after finishing fourth in Sunday’s rainswept pre-final and currently sits ninth in the overall standings.

Russell begins his British championship campaign at Grantham this weekend.
