SCHOOLBOY karting star George Russell clinched second place at the latest round of the British Super One Championship at the weekend.
Russell, 13, from Tydd St Giles, battled valiantly in wet conditions at Glan Y Gors kart circuit in Wales. The teenager started the final in fourth but ended up crossing the line just three-tenths of a second behind winner Ben Barnicoat after a thrilling display.
The Wisbech Grammar School pupil set the race’s fastest lap (47.42 seconds) and sits second in the championship with four rounds to go.
Russell (268 points) is one point ahead of Barnicoat in the standings but 22 points behind championship leader Callan O’Keefe who finished third in Wales.
